Which I nearly did, as I honestly didn’t know this gig was taking place until arriving at Dive HU5 for a drink. Of course the place was packed out for the local lads as they took to the stage down the Avenues.
So like I said, I had no idea this show was going on but the spontaneous decision to head out paid off as we saw two great bands – unfortunately we missed the first band on the bill.
So the first band we saw was Komparrison, a five-piece hailing from the North East. I have no qualms in saying I’d never heard of them before tonight, but now I have I’m a big fan. With great charisma and character from the female fronted band, and a grungey cover of Katy Perry’s ‘I Kissed A Girl’ I was impressed from start to finish. Will definitely be hearing a lot more of these guys!
Now for the headline spot, The Avenues. In the 60 capacity intimate venue, they had the crowd in the palm of their hand. Introducing a new song and a new drummer during the set, their energy throughout was immense. Their new EP ‘The View Is Amazing’ is coming soon and I for one can’t wait!
There is always something special about seeing a local band doing so well, and during the set I happened to be stood next to the parents of some of the band. Overhearing how proud and happy they were was a beautiful thing and was nearly my moment of the night!
But that accolade of course goes to Komparrison for the aforementioned Katy Perry cover!
Another great gig and a quick word on This Feeling who are genuinely changing the game for upcoming artists!
